Think about this from a long term point of view. You may save some money in the short term, however, if you buy a beater car and get liability insurance you can do that for much less than you will pay. If you keep the car and continue to give up percentages on your raises, how will that effect your career salary? How will that effect your retirement? Off-duty jobs are plentiful that do not require a car.

Looking at it from a long term perspective, will you really be better off keeping the car? The choice is yours.
