I could not agree more. It will cost me more to have to purchase a car and insurance, but I am still going to park the police car because in the long run it will cost everyone more by letting him get away with it. Why should I pay to lease a car that I can't even stop after work with my buddies and get a beer in? Why should I lease a car from Jerry that may end up being a target for some thug when my family is in it? Some times you have to make a choicenonwhatis more important. I am not for sale to these mayor and neither should you.

I have 4 kids and am paying for parochial schools and college. I have a mortgage and a car payment. Thingsnwill be tight, but I will hold my head up proudly and tell the mayor he no longer has a hold over me.

Don't fool yourself into thinking it will always be 100/160. I'm sure it will go up in 6 months. Then when the economy turns around, he'll raise it again because of inflation.

When people make an informed and rational decision on what to do with this car situation, they need to think long-term rather than sort term. They need to remember the history of the take-home car program.

Remember how many times the car has been used against them in negotiations. Remember how much smaller their raises have been. Think of the impact of having that money in their retirement, rather than down the drain. Yes, in the short term, it may be cheaper to keep the car. Will that hold true for them in a long-term view? Will the cost of the car remain static or will it rise in time?

Make your choice, but look at the whole picture rather than the limited view that is in front your nose.
