City employees questioning mayor's priorities

November 28th, 2008 @ 8:53PM (15 years ago)

I am glad to see the media FINALLY putting stuff like this in the news. Better late than never....

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

November 28th, 2008 @ 9:43PM (15 years ago)

WHAS wrote that?????

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

November 28th, 2008 @ 10:54PM (15 years ago)

Kudos to WHAS for that take on story. It seems (odd) that most of the news outlets have been doing a fairly good job of covering all this. I also noticed Fox did a story on how other cities (Jeffersonville) were managing to balance thier budgets despite the economic downturns without cutting public service.

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

November 28th, 2008 @ 11:21PM (15 years ago)

It is high time that the public receives the unvarnished truth from sources other than the people that have seen it first hand for years. Nobosy ever wanted to call Abramson out on all his problematic spending practices in the mainstream media. Well now we see that WHAS has told the public how it really stands. This problem was created and propagated by him and his highly suspect Cordish deal 1 week before announcing the shortfall says volumes for his corruption. SHAME ON YOU JERRY ABRAMSON!

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

November 28th, 2008 @ 11:24PM (15 years ago)

Abramson Uncovered should read the headlines. An investigation by the Justice Department is in order. His shady deals and mismanagement of our community should be front page news until he is driven from office and indicted.

Here's a question, where IS the money that we got from insurance for the wrecked helicopter? Could the long delay in getting it repaired be due to the fact that they directed the money somewhere else? I could build a freakin' chopper in the time it is taking to get this one repaired.

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

November 29th, 2008 @ 11:40AM (15 years ago)

If Abramsonwas really concerned about the economy he wouldn't have taken the Cordish deal. This speaks in and of itself about "What was really behind all of it?" Did he get paid off? Hmmmmmmmmmm,,,,,,

And what;s up with the smug little weanie Chad Carlton and his comments? "Cuts will be made regardless if the Unions approve" It is that kind of attitude that has promoted lawsuits which have cost the city millions already. Every time they try to do ignorant stuff like this they end up losing in court, wasting taxpayer money because they don't think before they act. If you have a contract then you have to abide by it. Just because you don't like it is not relevant.

I get tired of all the snide comments, half truths and outright lies coming from the mayor and his overpaid spokesmen. Never once has he (Abramson) or any of his staff admitted to doing anything wrong. If you tie the history of all the stupid decisions made in Metro Government by this administration together it is a shocking expose into serious mismanagement.

Light up Louisville was another overpriced blunder that this city can no longer afford. All the spotlightsm live bands, stages, security, port-a -potties, tents, carriage rentals, fireworks(seriously what does this guy have about fireworks and when did they become part of a Christmas celebration?) etc... what was the bill for that? Only a couple of thousand people showed up for it. I went down and I think that was an over estimization of the crowd. Let's say it was $2000 people. Let;s get the total cost and divide and see how much he spent to "entertain" a tiny fraction of the community. How about we lay off some single mom or two in an un-essential positions so we can do it again on new years.

His follies and blunders are coming one right after another and while proclaiming we are broke and he is going to do lay offs and pay cuts he continues to hold NON ESSENTIAL programs like this. What a two faced liar!

THE MAYOR WANTS A BAILOUT PLAIN AND SIMPLE!

He overspent and now he wants someone else to pay for it. I wonder why he hasn't asked for a new tax to raise the money?

Maybe it is because he THINKS he can strong arm the city employees into paying for his irresponsible behavior.

And he surely remembers what the city said to his proposed library tax.

Call and email the mayor and the council with these simple words, "I SAY NO TO THE ABRAMSON BAILOUT!"

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

November 29th, 2008 @ 4:16PM (15 years ago)

Lets look at ALL the projects and bad deals our Mayor ( I use that term loosly because I didnt vote for him EVER!) has pulled off or tried to pull off.

1. Merger - Many empty promises of surplus money for this great newly merged city.

2. Naval ordinance - this deal was going to give Naval ordinance to his former company for one dollar... the city was then going to pay for renovations...the city would then lease the land back from his former company to house the city garage for all vehicles

3. 4th Street Live- I admit this was a good idea on paper but there have been several clubs that have come and gone because of lousy business. This place is a haven for snot nosed alcoholics who think they are above the law. I assume the Mayor has never been here past 2 am to see what goes on.

4. Bardstown rd. because the Mayor has a Stake in 4th st he put the PD on Bardstown rd 3 years ago and had us enforce every little law which drove people to 4th st and put for money in his greedy pockets. If you do not think this is true ask the 5th division ofcs who HAD to write as many tickets as they could and dont forget the Task Force that was asigned there that summer.

5. Arena - I spoke to a prominate player who tried to get an NBA team in this city. He told me that the City was against the idea becuase it was not HIS idea. The first team ( The Grizzlies) would have paid for most of the arena cost. The city would not have been out the millions that is is now for the costs.

6. Walking Bridge - Do we really need this??? We have one right now .. they call it 2nd Street Bridge!

7. Bike Tracks- do we REALLY need a bike track all the way around the city? Who cares if we are one of the top cities for biking? What does that do for anyone in this city?

8. Dog parks- who needs another one of these? I have a dog park- its called a leash and my neighborhood

9. Center City- one week prior to announcing we have a budget short fall we give millions to Cordish for expanding 4th Street Live! WHY THE F*$K did he do this??? For the money. YOU all know he gets kick backs from Cordish! Ask an ABC ofc if he or she is allowed to go onto 4th street live property!

10. Library Tax- this was his way of paying for a new library system by making ALL citizens pay extra taxes. When this got shot down the police Dept had to start paying for using their vehicles. This was becuase gas was 4 dollars a gallon. Now that gas is under 2 dollars why are WE still paying this?

11. Police, Fire EMS contracts - every contract since merger has taken away from all these folks. Why are they having to pay for mismanaging that goes on downtown? EVERY CONTRACT has been progressively worse. The pay raises are never above 3.5 percent. WE Cannot keep up with cost of living. Thats why police work off duty, EMS works for Yellow and Mercy and firemen need 2nd jobs!

I could go on and on but I am tired of typing. Please continue this thread if you know of other shady deals I forgot.

Kerry Abramson..I mean Richardson just got on TV and said that Center City must go on as planned because it will create jobs. What jobs??? Bartenders and security guards? Give me a break. Plus we will give the bid to the highest bidder to build it because Jerry knows the guy that runs the company and will get a kick back!

I wish we could see all the kick backs he has received over the years! It would probably appaul most folks how much he really makes!

I applaud Mr Willman from the fire fighters union for saying what the public needs to know. He was actually given the chance to say what was necessary. I heard that when McGuire tried to say the same things they cut his interview to keep the truth out. News folks please stop protecting the Mayor. He cannot do anything to you! Or can he????

Hey before he j.a. asks anyone to give up money and furlough employees he really needs to find out why there are so very many metrosafe supervisors that supervise no one in particular. 4 per shift and many times the shift supervisors have to be held over to cover another shift and get paid overtime for doing so. They can get rid of the woman that makes tapes for court and for citizens she gets paid the same wages as a dispatcher, when they sought another employee to do her job they offered less than half her wages, which is about what she should get paid. there is a supervisor getting paid 40 hours a week to investigate complaints, we only have about ten complaints a month...overkill. how bout that supervisor who is getting called out as a dispatcher with a take home metrosafe van to INDIANA.

How about those supervisors that can't acrue sick time? take home cars for civilians? they pay their own gas, but they don't tow or repair their own vehicles or pay insurance on them either.

Q.A. team consists of 2 people get rid of that department. put em back in the radio room and eliminate the shortages in the radio room

I really am not in the know of some of the things that really go on in Abramson's affairs but some of you employees are and he is making you take a 3 day pay cut. He indicates to the news media that you are all on board with this and he was waiting for the police department to go along too. Some of you know what is really going on behind his closed doors and the public has a right to know this. A federal prosecutor might want to know these things too.

Take a look at the city's website, under job openings.. and what do you see.. (2) new jobs posted during the HIRING FREEZE ~~ one was posted today, 12-1-08. HELLO, did I miss something here? One job pays $25.00 an hour, lets do some math, and I bet that job would be around hmmm.... $50,000 perhaps, maybe a little more or less a year. Could that $$$ be used for something else, like paying the BILLS !! Come on Mayor J.A., you got to get the memo out to ALL city HR people, a HIRING FREEZE is in effect, and a THAW is not in the forecast !

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

I am not a city employee but agree this mayor has his priorities out of whack. The city continues to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on this city of parks idea. Much of the gravel that was put in place for this path has washed into Floyds Fork. Canoe ramps, walking paths, etc. all wasted money because the majority of this community will never use these areas. The mayor should shift all money funding such absurd projects towards our police department. I hope the police continue to fight our mayor on this topic. If his priorities were in the right place there would be more money for important vital services.

AGAIN

JOHN McQUIRE you were on TV again tonight 12-01-08 meeting with other unions. Please stay off the TV, do not do interviews. John no matter the type person you are and how good you may or may not be for the fop, your tv presence does not help gain you any support. your television presence is simply a step backwards for the fop cause. The members voted for a spokesperson becasue they all saw the same things in your interviews. As much as I support the fop in this matter you almost lose me with your Tv presence. For god sakes, use the spokesperson and stay off the TV.

No matter what you thought of the last election, you have to give McCain credit. They were very good about getting out fast and effective YouTube videos. We should employ that same strategy and get the videos out quickly to the public so that they know what is really going on. That would help get out our message.

Here is a question, if we are so short on money and are now having a hiring freeze then why is our department still wasting thousands of dollars on recruitment commercials? Every night on tv I see the commercial ("come be a part of our team, one badge multiple opportunities") and hear it on the radio. Anther example of how our government spends wasted money.

Want to hear a good one? I received a copy of some notes from one of the Teamsters Meetings. They voted against giving up any more. Sorry I do not know which branch it was, but the Mayor threatened to "With one phone call to the governor, declare an economic state of emergency(WTF?) which would as he put it constitute "some kind" of marshall law and he could suspend all contracts at that time. OMG! What is he smoking? This disaster (which he created and should be impeached for), would in no way work to that sort of power that he intends to try and grab. He is acting like he is some African Despot that has taken over a country, suspends the constitution etc... and then proceeds to pillage and rape the country. What he doesn't realize that ithe despot had an army to back him if marshall law was declared the police ( who have come to loath Jerry because of all the times he has stabbed us in the back) would have even greater power and that our contract already has stipulations and protections in decalred emergencies. Once again he has run off at the mouth without first checking the rules. We need to get rid of this idiot. Maybe what we need is an uprising. Throw the bum out!

Let's cut to the chase. We all know how badly Abramson has screwed Louisville's economy. He has chased out major corporations and sunk millions into the fiscally irresponsible programs like 4th Street Live which will expand into Center City and become and even bigger drain. Those enterprises are not taxed at the same level as other businesses on bardstown road or any other part of this community. You can't tell me he isn't getting some sort of kick back for a deal like he gave his cronies at Cordish.

The real crux is that nobody has seen the books. Is this a projection? Well if that is all it is then scale back your projection. We call that reality. I didn't win the powerball this week but i didn't plan my budget around having something that wasn't there to begin with.

Is there a comparison to the size of Louisville's errrrr Jerry's "Rainy Day Fund" versus other cities like Indy, Lexington, Cincy, Nashville, Memphis ????

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

December 2nd, 2008 @ 4:33PM (15 years ago)

We have 63 million in the "Rainy Day" fund. Cut what needs to be cut that isn't absolutely needed. You can cut your own salary voluntarily, but leave mine alone. I am not being greedy, I am trying to feed my family. Why should we all suffer because Abramson screwed Louisville's Economy up? After you have trimmed all the pork out of your "projected" budget, then it is time to hit up the Rainy day fund because that is what it is there for. Hello...........Jerry??? Are you listening? IT IS A FREAKIN" HURRICAINE OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW!

You sorry excuse for a human being the very last thing you shuld do is lay someone off or take money away from them. How dare you pretend to lead this city when you pushed through a shady deal and then claim we are broke and the first people you go after are your public safety people. This City could not survive without the brave Men and Women who serve every single day of the year. From Dispatchers, call takers, EMTs, parmedics, police, firefighters etc... down to the part time desk clerks that man their stations on weekends because service is what we do for our community. Do everyone a big favor and just resign. I am sick of seeing you.

p.s. I noticed your CFO resigned yesterday. What's up with that? Can she not stand you lying to the public any more?? C'mon news stations why haven't you all interviewed Jane Driscoll about all of this yet????

Surely SOMEONE can expose Jerry's personal financial relationships with Cordish and others? Isn'the and his law firm buddies in an investment group that reaps the profits of 4th street live and virtually all downtown property sales -including waterfront development?

With all of the blatant tactics he's pulled such as Naval Ordinance, the fire department pay, etc...why isn't someone at least looking into investigating him such as the K.B.I or even P.I.U. ?

The mayor refused to release the budget to the unions to have it examined.

Something in that budget will cause the mayor embarrassment or jail time. We need to find out!

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

We are strongest together, maybe ALL unions should come together and unite and have a joint news PR program to show the public just whats going on. We should ALL show the public we are people also...we have families and how much these ideas will take away from our holidays. What the news fails to show is a human side to HIS mismanagement of monies. These are peoples lives HE is messing with like pieces of paper. ALL of the unions should stand tall together, cause we are in it together and show this community that enough is enough. I would also like to see every member of the Metro council get involved since YOU are elected to represent you cities people, yet only Mr. Downard has spoken. Are you really that scared of HE. Threats only go so far, fear is a tactic HE has used for a very long time and it has worked so far...IT IS TIME TO NOT BE SCARED.

Mr. Downard I applaud you, please talk to your fellow members and come together and we ALL can make things get accomplished.

The 63 million dollar surplus is OUR MONEY. It's extra money the TAXPAYERS HAVE PAID and wasn't spent! IT'S OUR MONEY!!!!!!!!! So instead of laying off 150-200 hand working, under paid Metro employees, I give you permission to spend part of my 63 million dollars in taxpayer money!

I am not associated with LMPD, nor am I related to anyone who is an Officer - I am a citizen who just wants to say THANK YOU to the Officers that were involved in the pursuit with the moron who "alledgedly" robbed the Ky Telco on Monday. The pursuit went right by my house and all around my neighborhood for several minutes. I watched as you tried to stop the moron by blocking the street and he refused to stop and drove up into the neighbors yard. I must ask, where was the helicopter when you needed it on Monday? Is that thing still being repaired??? I would have thought you could have built a new one by now in the amount of time it has been gone. Are there other agencies that have a helicopter that you could use in the event there was an emergency that you needed an Air Unit? If so, what kind of time delay does that cause? I am just wondering, because our neighborhood seemed to have the Air Unit overhead many many times when the sexual predator was breaking into houses - and I would hope that we had one readily available if something like that or something even worse happened again! Why isn't anyone asking this question? The backup helicopter was sold during the last budget problem - I hate to think that we may lose anything else that protects us.

What the hell is going on? Fox 41 news just reported (AM news 12-3) that the FOP and the Mayor are now allies on the 20 million $$ budget shortfall. They also reported that after the meeting the FOP agrees with the amount WITHOUT THE AUDIT. Once again I ask what the hell is going on? The FOP meets with the mayor and now is going to be in the mayor's corner? Are we being sold down the river with idle threats from the mayor that if we don't cooperate and be the leaders for the rest of the unions he is going to make our lives worse?

How about some info from the FOP?

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

December 3rd, 2008 @ 8:06AM (15 years ago)

Why does Jerr need an answer right away and says that there is'nt time to provide an audit to the unions ??? Is the Fiscal year not over until July 1st ?? What's the big hurry Jerry ??? Need to do some last minute Christmas shopping for your Cordish buddies ?? Once again he is trying to pull the wool over the public's eye by making it seem like the calender year is the end of the fiscal year. You let unions work for 1-2 years without being in much of a hurry to settle contracts. Open up and take your medicine. Did I also hear you use the term " finacially irresponsible" when referring to dipping into your slush fund, I mean your "Rainy Day" fund. Is taking 10 mil from your 63 mil not worth the quality of life to workers( that are all under paid anyway ) you may have to layoff at this time of year. And don't say "well, I have to pay the Firefighter's with some of that cash"...because if you had done the right thing before instead of trying to screw them in the court system that bill would have been several millions less. This is no longer a Police or Fire or EMS or Public Works or Dispatcher problem. We must all join together and meet the "bully" at the playground and stand up against him as a unified group. I would rather give (3) of my vacation days to a single mom or husband working two jobs to support his family that is being forced to take furlough days than give them to the Grinch....

OMG can you not see what is going on with the Mayor? The meeting yesterday they would not let Mr. Bisig go in is when the FOP officials should have said NO MEETING then. Why do we need so many Deputy Mayors, did they attend the meeting? Apparently Jerry is only capable of getting in front of the TV cameras and trying to turn the public against all those that protect and serve, to take the heat off his sorry a$$. As he said yesterday, he has been Mayor for 19 yrs, so where does the Budget shortfall belong? Why does he not want anyone to have access to the financial books? Something to hide, Mayor? Where did the money go from the sale of Southfields, the helicopter, Naval Ordnance? We all know the CJ is in love with Jerry, hopefully there will be some news reporters with some backbone to do a story or dig around on the Mayor. FOP and other unions stand your ground, you've given enough!!!!! I am a taxpayer and screw Jerrys granite curbs, arena and the Cordish project. Jerry shame on you, you ball less excuse for a man. How can you look people in the face and not feel any guilt at all and try to push the blame on others. Remember..what goes around comes around, and does anyone wonder why Jerry didnt get the endorsements from the FOP when running for Mayor. He is out for revenge...DONT GIVE IN TO HIM!!!!!!!!!

I will not vote for any proposed bailout for this mayor or administration. My answer remains the same as day one. Tell me where to park 1300 police cars, Sell half of them and net a total of approximately 2.5 to 4.5 million dollars. It is basic math depending on the amount of each cars worth, and what it would bring at auction. Apply that number to YOUR budget shortfall and I am finished with my portion of the fiscal responsibility being asked for by YOU. After you take the cars you will have no further carrots to dangle over our collective heads. The PD will have contributed 2.5 to 4.5 million dollars to the problem and I can sleep well at night knowing I have done my civic duty. I will never vote for decreased benefits or wages that have been fought for, signed, voted on by our membership, and ratified by your signature. I have not even mentioned the 65 million dollar Rainy Day Fund, which by the way, is a SURPLUSS in most economic circles. I also know that you do not ever ask for money when you are sitting on a fortune. I would call that crying wolf. Why is Kelly Downard the only person up there speaking out against all this mess? I can assume the remainder of the Metro Council is too embarassed by the wool being pulled over thir eyes to care? Get off your butts and save some jobs. Tell the mayor he will not lay off employees. Tell him to plug the 20 million dollar hole with the SURPLUSS, then cut services to make up the shortfall over time. Charge yourselves some interest on this small loan from the SURPLUSS account and create a greater SURPLUSS over three or four years repayment time. Hell I'm not even in the banking business and I can figure this crap out.Tell chicken little the sky is not really falling, the ceiling has simply been lowered for a while. We can no longer afford to spend obnoxious amounts of money on parks, sidewalks, bike racks, illegal land trades or anything else for that matter. Cut back spending and not reduce services. Was that not the rallying war cry for merger? Is that what the mayor promised at re election time people? Hold this man to his word for once. Stand united on this front and vote as I will. No further reduction of my salary now or in the future, Take back YOUR car and sell it. No further reduction of my benefit package now or in the future.

Take a look at the city's website job bank, there have been 3 jobs posted since MONDAY of this week. What the heck is going on here.. "mayor --- I have told all depts. there is a hiring freeze in effect as of today and will be so until further notice", yet there are new job openings popping up DAILY ! Please.. can someone explain this to us? Did I miss something here? Take a look for yourself. City employees have the fear of J.A. taking their jobs away yet his HR dept. is ready to fill some empty shoes all in the same breath. I will be doing some research on if the state can look into this matter if he does lay off people yet hire people.

For once ...

Oh, my gosh, the mayor actually told the truth about something - it really does cost the city about 1500 a year for the usual firefighter to be paid their 3100 stipend. (Has to do with the way the pay is calculated, and that they get 16hours of OT a week.) But ... if they'd been doing it correctly, as they KNEW how to do because they do the police pay right, it would have been part of the budget all along.

City employees questioning mayor's priorities

Jane Driscoll left for the same reason so many other top people have left, the benefits change for retirement on Jan 1 and if you are close to being eligible you are crazy to stay around. That being said, Jerry keeps placing the blame on the employees if lay offs occur and threatening 200 layoffs.

With so many people retiring are we talking about real layoffs where real people lose their jobs or just not filling the vacant positions? I know in my department we lost a large number of ineffective managers that had been with the old city for 27 years. We could cut payroll 15% by not replacing them. The private sector cut out the layers of middle management years ago, for some reason Jerry keeps all these inefficient levels of management. Our department is actually running better with less managers.

So Jerry keeps threatening layoffs, I don't care. I feel sorry for those it happens to but the lowest go. Jerry wants my family to take a huge economic hit so that some 21 year old kid with a GED that is related to a council womans hairdresser doesn't have to go back to working at Home Depot, I don't care.

Service will suffer, I don't care. Service is already terrible and I've grown used to it over the last six years. You want to save money? I can show you how but you needed to ask my Union six years ago, not now that you are broke.
