Man who shot and killed Deputy Cheeks may walk free
This is a typical travesty when someone recieves credit for "good time" and is released early. A Jury convicted him and gave him a sentence of 20 years... too short considering he took a life. It is excaberated by the fact that he spent a little over 8 years in a mental hospital and then after he was deemed competent to stand trial his attorneys still tried to get him off. He then served less than 6 full years and gets credit for being good. BALONEY! He should have to serve out the remainder of his time.
I was there that day. I saw Floyd lying there on the ground in a pool of blood. We risked our lives getting Bard to come out of the house. He followed every command to the letter and answered every question put to him. It wasn't until his Public Defender Rob Eggert got ahold of him that he started the "I am the King", "I am crazy" story. It sickens me that this murder only got 20 years. I know that he will one day be jumping from hot rock to hot rock for his actions that day, but until then he is going to be given freedom and the chance to kill another cop or a citizen.
Lastly, did the parole board in their infinite wisdom not consider notifying Law Enforcement Officers in Jefferson County that they were going to be releasing a convicted Cop Killer? Did they not try and find the family to notify them? No, it appears some beuracratic time server didn't think wither was important enough.
I pray that they keep Bard at Central State. At least he will be off the street, but wasn't he already found competent?
Our system of Parole sucks here in Kentucky. If a jury gives a sentence to a criminal then he ought to have to serve that sentence. No parole. No good time. Some liberal Judge shouldn;t be allowed to give shock probation. The whole idea behind our constitutional system of justice is that a jury of a man's peers decides guilt or innocence and then recommends a sentence. Abide by the sentence is all we ask. No favors for not acting out in prison.

Why is it that a story on this web site about a CO and his ex-wife can generate 250+ comments, but a story about a hero who sacrifices his life in the line of duty can only generate one. Sad...very, very sad!
Rest in peace brother.
