"Prosecutor: Shooting victim pulled gun on retired cop

January 16th, 2008 @ 12:50PM (16 years ago)

The media did their level best to get a grand jury conviction in this case. They repeatedly broadcasted goofballs who at best knew only fragments of what happened at this tragic incident. Thankfully forensics proved that the RETIRED ofc. acted lawfully. It also proved that certain attorneys will use the media to ramp up their ability to sue ie. the gun had blood splatter ON BOTH SIDES ! which means that the gun was up and in play, Koenig did exzactly what he should have did. Another detail that was not widely reported by our MEDIA was that Koenig had his wife with him at the time of the incident. Repeatedly sticking a camera in the face of the family whose loved-one was injured was really a classy move too how did you expect them to act. The Lousville Media's coverage of anything involving a police officer or anyone close to that title is rotten, tainted, meanspirited, spun for ratings, and unprofessional. Officer Koenig was smart to not make any kind of statement to local media for this reason!

you know honestly,,,if a person was to pull out a gun and shot someone they would have been put in jail.....until their hearing....but since he was a former police officer he was not put in jail????just really goes to show you who protects who....we all know the code of honer the police use for former or now members of the police force...any time an officer is involved with a shooting,ie..other things it always goes for the police .. i mean come on now really ..its all bs and the public knows it .....

To the IDIOT that said "you know honestly,,,if a person was to pull out a gun and shot someone they would have been put in jail.....until their hearing....but since he was a former police officer he was not put in jail????"

There was a double murder on Tempest way about 6 months ago where a drug dealer was getting robbed of his dope and he shot and killed both bad guys who were OUTSIDE od his apartment and one of the dead guys was about 30 YARDS AWAY. He was questioned and NOT CHARGED nor did he spend any time in jail for the MURDERS that were ruled justified! SO ******** U AND YOUR BLUE CODE OF HONOR!!!!! It happens to dope dealers as well as the Police and any normal citizen.

I know of no police officer that wants to go through a situation like this. For people to scream that there is a cover up is uninformed and inflammatory rhetoric. Anyone who has put on the uniform knows that if you are presented with a situation like this that it will be investigated. The investigation won't be a cover up either. What the media doesn't want you to know is that once the investigation is done and presented it is public record. The media then goes over everything with a fine tooth comb looking for any issues they can bring up. What ever type of police officer Koenig was has no issue on this incident. You had two men with guns, undisputed, forensic evidence shows that Pickerill's gun was out of the console. No one is expected, not even the police (retired or not), to get shot first before defending themselves. It is a sad event and I'm sure that Mr Pickerill didn't want it to turn out this way. I would like to know what the investigation found of his history. They have eviscerated Koenig for everything they could find. Is Mr Pickerill's past clean? If it is good for him. If there is anything please make it public record so his family and friends can understand some of what Koenig went through. I'm not defending his career at all. Let's just level the playing field. I think the phrase is judge lest not you be judged.

Love him or hate him, Koenig acted properly and within the law. Pickerell was a bully that thought that by pulling a gun he could intimidate someone. He has probably done it before. Unfortunately for him his stupid intimidation tactic didn't work because he tried to bully someone that was prepared for his threat. Unortunately he came across someone that has been trained to deal with someone that uses deadly force. Guns aren't toys to be waved around to intimidate people or to show off. Police deal with threats everyday and don't have to use deadly force, but they are prepared to do so at any given moment. Sorry about your luck pickle, but you picked on the wrong guy this time. Too bad your family has to change yor diapers for the rest of your life becasue of your stupid decision

How could Koenig wife describ weapon in detail if Pickerill weapon was found

if the console between the two front seats, she must have a stomach made of iron

to look in car at a man shoot six time at all that blood.I thought when this was on T.V. I heard Koenig voice that called in now they say his wife call in.
