Can't blame them. Got a Mayor that sucks and want's to cut bennefits. Got a chief that doesn't believe in due process. You are guilty when he says you are guilty and he diesn't give a damn what the Merit Board and the courts say about it.

Exactly. This isn't a lateral issue, if nothing else, you SHOULD be able to find out a lot more about a lateral transfer, especially one from the area, than a new recruit, if you do any kind of a background check. They should be much more of a known quantity. Louisville could attract all sorts of good laterals if they were willing to treat them properly. Those of you planning retirement and rehire soon - how would YOU feel if you were told your years of service were immaterial, you still had to go to 18 weeks of basic training and then ride with an FTO? What's the difference?

LMPD is short handed because it chooses to be. Yes, recruiting is tough, for everyone, but not impossible. Get a really good cadet program going, Get this kids involved before they are 21, there are lots of jobs they could get hired part-time to do, for example, with the goal to starting a recruit class right after college graduation every year. Give them a reason to stay clean and on the path before they walk in to apply for the job. (I know they have a cadet program, I've seen 'em.)
