Jerry considers his public safety entities as a "Neccesary Evil". Those are his words. Why do we not get along with him? Put it in your own perspective. The consumer price index (cost of living increases) are far greater than the measly pittance of a raise he has given the Police. (2004 -0% raise, 2005 -2% raise and 2006 -2% raise) Every year he has been mayor the best he gave us was a 3% raise(for LPD Officers) and then he would turn around and raise the insurance rates so each year we were working for less. Only on paper did it show and increase.

In the last contract he was given theopportunity to save face by offering a deal that if the Occupational License fee increased over 3% for every full percentage point that it increased the Police would receive and addition 1/2 % increase. Not a whole lot but that way he could tell his other city unions he only gave us 2%. When we called him on this becasue of all the money he was raking in it turned out that he said 'Oh, you all are looking at the wrong figures, it isn't a gross figure it is the net figure, because we have to pay off my buddy's private cpmpany that has the no-bid contract to coolect and process the fees and when the money finally does get in the city coffers you all probably owe more money. The case has gone to an arbitrator and it is really a no-brainer, he owes the Police money. In reality he will tie it up in court for years wasting tax payer dollars and still refuse to pay up. Ask the Firefighters who he has owed money to now for 8 1/2 years.

yes there is history here. HE HAS ALWAYS DESPISED THE FIRE AND POLICE. Then he shows his face at rallys and praises those in public saftey. What he doesn't say his how he is not willing to pay those who put their lives on the line a decent wage. Hey I have an idea, why don't we support the police and fire and stop trying to build more parks. If we don't there wont be anyone to protect you as you are getting robbed, assualted and worse in these parks. Can you think of any other pet projects of his or metro goverment that really doesn't need to be done right now. How about the renovation of metro hall for the meetings?
