Jefferson County Deputy Sherrif Attacked, Firearm Stolen

I find it interesting that this story doesn't indicate that the deputy is 78 years old. I find it difficult to think this is a "crime of opportunity."

I see LMPD is working so hard to help a fellow LEO out and get this thug. Keep up the good work Chief. Now even the Police aren't safe in Louisville. 78 years old or not, this just shows that the Louisville thugs have no respect or fear of Law Enforcement.

Things are out of control. We have seen an huge surge in violent crime when other towns are reporting less every year. Our crime fighting strategies (HAR HAR) on LMPD as set forth by the puzzle palace are: IF WE CATCH YOU BEING RUDE TO A CRIMINAL WE WILL SUSPEND YOU. IF WE CATCH YOU HITTING A CRIMINAL THAT HAS FOUGHT WITH YOU WE WILL SUSPPEND OR FIRE YOU.

Other famous strategies are. Let's so away with Street Crimes and most of metro narcotics. Let's cut the traffic unit to the bone. Lets force beat cops to attend community meetings several times a week instead of arresting criminals so they can listen to some whiney but complain about her neighbors dog barking.

Now let us examine the FACTS. MURDERS are way up since merger. ARMED ROBBERIES are way up since merger. STREET ROBBERIES and ASSAULTS are way up since merger. TRAFFIC FATALITIES are way up since merger. THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.

Now you ask yourself WHY????? Because Jerry Abramson has picked a failed administrator and instituted policies that are innefective at fighting crime and keeping our community safe. Robert White has made some good choices and some really poor ones. His big problem is that he won't admit that he is wrong when something isn't working. He also is not getting the backing from the Mayor that could change things back to somethng that works.

Said nothing about crime solving skills - by the way - I know that LMPD has some outstanding officers. But the failure to collect evidence at the scene (and you don't) means that even when you catch the guy, you can't convict because you can't place them at the scene. I've had any number of crime victims I know that live in Jefferson County be amazed that after a burglary, they never hear from anyone at LMPD after the initial officer takes a report. One relative of mine left the scene untouched for three days until she called and learned that LMPD had no intention of even documenting the scene, let alone collecting any evidence. (In my agency, the beat officer is trained and trusted enough to actually do some crime scene work - it isn't farmed out to other people.)

And no, this isn't the "fault" of the beat officers, but it is something that seems to be just accepted at LMPD, that report officers don't do crime scene work, that you don't run your own Intox, that you don't attend any formal classes on radar, etc.

And I HAVE worked for employers who hate me, fortunately, I don't now. There are lots of policing jobs open all over the state - even close enough that you wouldn't have to move - and that are in the same pension plan.

And for many officers in Kentucky, 20 mile away back up is the norm , there are deputies that work an entire county overnight alone - so you won't get any sympathy with that comment.

And who said anything about the color of his skin? I don't know O'Nan's race.

What really needs to be done, is add about 200 Officers to the Authorized Strength of the Louisville Metro Police Dept.

You say we need 200 something officers on the street, but we cant even get 300 WORTHY people to apply! When you hiring restrictions on things like college, and other pathetic requirments, what the heck do you expect.

Once again GREAT JOB CHIEF! You have prevented many WORTHY applicants from applying that I know personally due to they don't have enough money to get a college degree, and you won't let them get the chance to get on a job that pays enough money and will reimburse them for their time and effort they WANT to put into getting a 4 year degree....you idiot.

Don't some street gangs initiate members by having them steal an officer's weapon? Do we have organized street gangs in Louisville? I wonder if a Street Gang Unit could have helped with this. Don't worry, I'm sure they'll turn themselves in to a district resources officer at the next community meeting or perhaps while attending the Citizens Academy. Louisville is quickly becoming as safe as Washington, DC was when Chief White quit working there. Way to go Bob!

I somehow doubt this was a random act. The age of the deputy and other circumstances leads me to believe that this was a planned attack. Maybe hastily planned, but planned never the less. Let this be a warning to all that wear the badge, there are people out there looking to do this again to the next LEO. Be careful.
