What Constitutes a "Threat?"

According to this law -- 18 USC Sec. 871 -- which reads, in part:

"...Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both."

Bailey should be allowed to speak and say whatever is on his mind, just as long as someone is taping it for the Secret Service.

Who dies and made Ricky Jones God? How in the hell can anyone justify Bailey stating it is o'k to kill and then in the next breath say that he should be teaching other youth's about settling matters without violence. Has the world gone mad??? This isn't a black vs. white issue. This is a RIGHT vs. WRONG issue and Phillip Bailey was wrong to make those comments whether or not he is part of the non-violence progream or not, but especially wrong because he is.

SO the truth comes out finally. Phillip Bailey was a friend of the Drug Dealer Michael Newby. I wonder, was he also a client?

He has an axe to grind against the police and so he continues to be bitter and make these kind of statements. What a great rple model for the future generations. We need more good men like Dr. King not more redicals like Bailey.

What good would it do to boycott your own paycheck? WHO IS LOSING IN THIS DEAL? Not UofL, the Officer who does the Boycotting. Is Bailey an Idiot, absolutely! Is he going to amount to anything? Absolutely not, other activists, except for Jones, think he is a box of rocks.

On the other page, someone wrote:

In front of the student center they have a sign that says "hate free zone". Maybe someone should start a protest there with signs that say "hate free joke". Bailey is president of the "student nonviolent coordinating committee"? Looks like he can't spell.---He accidentally put "n-o-n" in front of the second word.

How about being more specific. Have signs that read:

"U of L Pan-African Studies and Sociology

Teach Free Hate"

or

"U of L Pan-African Studies and Sociology

Preach Free Hate"

Between Bailey, Jones, Coleman and the such, Louisvilles black community doesn't stand a chance of breaking through thier own racial prejudices. Much like the Muslim Clerics in Iraq, who preach peace on the surface they subversly promote violance. Thier message is clear, "Whitie is the enemy!"

Few differences lie between these 3. Bailey doesn't have the intellect and self control to hide his racism, like Jones and he doesn't have an established relationship with God to hide behind like Coleman.

Rev. Cosby, please help these people. If anyone can I know it's you.

Could someone please organize a "support the police" rally near the U of L Student Center to let Professor Ricky "Ward Churchill" Jones know that not everyone agrees with him?

It's disgusting to think taxpayers pay for most of this kind of "education" I'd sooner spend the money on Sally Struthers University of the Internet than pour it down the sewer of ignorance formerly called the University of Louisville.

Who started this crap of a thread? Bill O'Lielly? What happened in NO is unique and exposed society and its structure, including law enforcement, as shallow and inadequate. It ain't 'cops v. citizens,' people. It's 'cops AND citizens.' Get your head out of that nether region that is copthink and be citizens.

Its funny how you all claim the Mayor is spending too little time focusing on the criminals and crime, but you all are emersed in a debate over a College Student with a good GPA, and no criminal record.

I do not believe that active duty officers should be detailed to work U of L events for traffic purposes. This is a job better handled by off duty LMPD officers being paid by the University not the taxpayer.

There are fewer cars on the street now, due to a personnel shortage. At least off duty officers should have the option of being paid for their services. Where is the U of L Police dept?
