Have you asked for an accounting? I see the disbursements regularly, they disburse for more than just fatalities. A lot of uncovered medical needs, for example, including several officers in Jefferson County, have benefited. If you don't like the way money is disbursed, talk to the members of the board. If you need a list, I'll post it. I've never had them refuse a request for an accounting of revenues and disbursements.

The family should be eligible for the federal peace officer monies, although unfortunately, because no one "likes" constables, we haven't been able to get state law changed to include them. (For that matter, if John Heller had died in 1999, during West Broadway, his family wouldn't have gotten it either.) I'm told the state FOP has argued strongly against adding people to the statute - which also excludes, specifically, third -service EMS, rescue and emergency management. So if a Louisville Metro EMS employee now gets killed in the line of duty, their family doesn't get the state death benefit.

Has his family applied for the federal benefit?
