The $175,000 paycheck is the main reason anyone but a retread that left would take a 2-year job. That's a lot of money to most chiefs and the ones over 60 probably won't care that much if they get dumped by a new mayor.
In reality it would be closer to 2 1/2 to 3 years just because it takes that long to hire someone in from outside the county. If it's a Democrat friendly to Fischer they would probably keep the new chief a while unless there's a problem.
Fischer has some options due to the pay being offered but he's always prized political subservience over competency. Has that changed? I doubt it. If the entire metro council didn't demand a change, Conrad would have lasted until his term is up.
