A California police chief is reeling after his son was accused in a violent attack on a 71-year-old Sikh man. The metro council appears to believe $1.2 million in overtime is too much even though it's only about 2% to 3% of the pay of the rank and file officers who work overtime. That's not the problem considering that patrol divisions are 10% to 20% understaffed. The problem beyond the obvious issues in narcotics is how haphazard the spending was. You can't simply pour that little money out for routine activities, without it being tied to a specific set of crime-reduction initiative, and expect to get any results. It's like pouring water on parched ground.

The council and Mayor's office need to get over the fact that the city's budget is going to public safety. While there are a few loud voices saying the opposite, many on the metro council share the blame in encouraging the hug-a-thug passivity that White and Conrad injected into LMPD that aggravated and encouraged the gangland crime wave. We don't even have a gang or street crimes unit in a city full of violent street gangs. Command disbanded flex units so we could have an overgrown redundant community services division. The metro council could have reversed all that in the budget by directing those units to exist, but didn't. They share the blame.

The people of Louisville are like slow boiling frogs. Most people, anyway.

Is it true that West Buechel and it's Chief are being investigated for prearranged employment issues involving the Chief himself getting hired back just 30 days after retiring. A recently retired officer who was going to comeback after 30 days and the retirement system found out and did not the officer to be rehired. Another officer was being given credit for working so they could get their retirement but wasn't actually working. Sounds like the usual trouble for them.

Someone should write a book like this about Fischer.
