Activist liberal judges are a thing now. They're always trying to carry out social justice agendas through the bench as they've attempted to do against Trump for 2 years now. They nearly always get reversed on appeal, so we will be waiting until the appeals process kicks it back.

The teachers unions and others demanding the old cadillac retirement plans of the past are living in an era that no longer exists. The days of people retiring in their 40s on fat pensions are basically over because they're unaffordable with people living so long after they retire. If you can't afford to pay for them with new members contributing at least the same amounts, then you definitely can't afford them with new members only putting money into 401k-style plans. No intelligent person would take a job paying full price for your cadillac half-pay in 20 years pension when they're working until they're 65 and paying into a cash balance plan.

Everyone talks about inviolable contract as if it can't be erased by a change to KRS or a constitutional change at most. Not an impossible thing if the alternative is stop paying for basic services, medicaid, etc.

The Democrats were successful at convincing the democrat Frankfort judge to strike the pension bill down after weeks of screaming in the capitol. Then they tell the GOP they have to give in to their demands. This is how they operate. Obstruct, destroy then insist its their way or the highway afterwards. Their proposed alternatives are raising sales taxes and income taxes.

The pension fund was always supposed to be paid by employers and employees. Instead, employers pressured KRS to keep contribution rates about 1/2 where they should be and the state legislature pulled money out like a kid's piggy bank.

It was supposed to be invested in low risk or medium risk investments. Instead they put it in crazy investments that were nothing more than ponzi schemes because people were taking bribes. One of Beshear Sr's henchmen is still in prison today. A lot more should be next to him but aren't.

This is a sh-t sandwich and it's not just taxpayers who will be taking a bite. Expect reductions in payments, either because the laws are changed or because the state has no money to pay and are effectively bankrupt. This is a broke state just getting more broke by the year.
