$1.5 million for cameras and another $1.5 million (we like that number apparently) for the amazing crime-stopping Shot Spotter. That's enough money to pay for a unit of 30, who could be rounding up felons who've skipped court or have violated probation or parole. That just might be a better use of the money, considering they've done all of the cop killings of the last several years.

You can't blame Cirillo for defending them though. Anyone would defend them to keep that easy job he's got now. It's a lot better than having to explain why crime's soaring in your division like he used to.

Body cams were the death nail for self initiated activity. Those who say "officers shouldn't worry about anything if they are not doing anything wrong" are not being honest either. How would you like every single opinion you had recorded for later scrutiny? Nope, its not reasonable. In ten years, departments will look back on body cams and realize how terrible an idea they were.

People are starting to notice all the old junk cars littering the city. Why not make them available to protesting activists for the next time they want to set a car on fire or dance on the roof?

This is obviously a preliminary half-measure. In another year or two, LMPD will begin allowing all kinds of felony reports to be filed online. Detectives will make phone calls to witnesses and ask them to upload crime scene photos using an app. A police drone will fly in to collect forensic evidence.

Guy pulls up on my street two houses down in a car, parks next to a fire hydrant gets out walks through my yard goes to my neighbors house and gets into his car and drives off with neighbor watching him. Neighbor gives chase and catches him in a apartment parking lot a mile away. Instead of shooting his *** he lets him go. Police show up, run parked vehicle, it has wrong plates, busted steering column and illegally parked next to hydrant.Police say to me they can't do anything because impound lot is full and leave. Criminal comes back that night gets old car. Same guy steals another car a couple days later a few blocks away at convenient store with 2 kids in back. Same guy. Maybe if somebody had did a little police work instead of worrying about getting back to Thortons this would not have happened to these children. I know this to be the facts because I retired from LMPD and talked to the officers on the scene during first theft. Now I know why LMPD is getting the wrap of a do nothing department. Neighbor talked to division nothing done. It really is sad the dept has come to this.

1 of the names got out but Fischer's still covering up the others he spent $109,000 on for Derby entertainment.

"A Louisville civil rights leader revealed Thursday that one of the secret guests that Mayor Greg Fischer spent $109,000 to entertain during Kentucky Derby week was the president of the National Urban League. Sadiqa Reynolds, president and CEO of the Louisville Urban League, shared a photo that identified Marc Morial, and confirmed to the Courier Journal that he was in town as a guest of the mayor. "Thankful the city hosted National Urban League Pres for Derby," she tweeted on Thursday "Needed to show that Louisville should be on list of places our national organization considers for conference. I also needed to garner national support for the track. Which we got!!!! More on this exciting news later." Reynolds served as Fischer's chief of community building until 2015. The administration has declined to release its guest list showing who benefited from the expenditures, which included tickets to Churchill Downs, rooms at the Omni hotel downtown and other items over two days in May."

Not a surprise to see organized crime make a comeback while some are distracted by basketball coaches, shoe coaches the Trump campaign and investigating police. 8 years of Obama was enough to let the Mexicans start importing drugs straight onto the streets of Louisville.

Well....is anyone surprised???? Taxpayers paid for this yet the Mayor gets to claim attorney client privilege. Conrads name gets redacted for what reason???? Fischer claims attorney client privilege. WDRB has to go to attorney General to force their hand, but still no investigation by that office after everyone saw some of what they lied about in depositions. Taxpayer funded report and the Mayor again attorney client privilege. Would not think he could claim that in a publicly funded document. If nothing to worry about and innocent of wrongdoing why claim attorney client privilege. At least we have a Councilman trying to get to the truth and not afraid to challenge them. Proves he isn't swayed by the B.S. And has courage none of them downtown will ever have.

https://wfpl.org/kycir-3-of-every-4-jailed-louisville-youth-are-black-who-can-change-that/

Who can change black kids being 3 of every 4 jailed youth?

1. Kids themselves. It doesn't take a genius or adulthood to realize that a life of crime lands you in jail, prison or the grave. If they're that sheltered, it's still on TV every day.

2. Irresponsible parents. Don't be a criminal, don't be irresponsible, and don't let the streets raise your kids. If the kid refuses to listen to you, tell the court they're beyond your control.

3. Family court judges. When a parent tells you a kid is out of control, do something, because that's probably the next shooter, drug addict or armed robber. Some kids need to attend a "boot camp" to unlearn all the irresponsibility they've been exposed to.

4. Police, prosecutors and judges. Don't let kids walk away from juvenile charges just because they're kids. They are told they can commit crimes with impunity by gang leaders. Show them impunity will keep them behind bars until age 21.

5. Juvenile corrections. Do something but run training academies for future criminals. They should all be boot camps or residential drug rehab.

6. Welfare offices and legislators. Change the rules and laws so parents have incentive to stay in the same house, rather than never get married, in order to collect their welfare money. That's the #1 reason there are so few fathers in the house where children live in low income areas. Women can't collect the same money if the father is in the house.

7. School board and administrators. Don't tolerate deliquency in schools. If a kid screws up enough, send him to a boot camp school. A lot of today's public schools are drug markets and gladiator pits with violent out of control kids who never learn anything but how to skip it.

It's pretty outrageous even if you are pro-police.

This some pathetic political B.S. and a pure example of weak leadership. An elected official throwing in the towel who is supposed represent all of us. This situation is the fault of democrats and republicans alike, and enough has to be enough with the politics. Maybe it's time all of those in jobs in the various pension systems unite and call out all of them. While Bevin has made some missteps at least he tried to make them do something. And while Beshear wants to play the air game on everything, why doesn't he offer up solutions to address the issue? But....in reality it all comes down to our elected officials in Frankfort being more interested in keeping their jobs instead of doing their jobs. Governor Bevin should order them all back into session, sit down with the various groups and come to a reasonable compromise. Tell all these democrats and republicans for once to leave their damned politics at the door. The cowards that have been elected in both sides of the aisle owe the people doing the work better

WAVE3 reported city council to get Explorer report next week to review they will then vote whether to release to public. I'll bet Fischer is already calling all his democrat council members to call in favors to keep it under wraps till after election. All I can say if it isn't released every sitting council member should be voted out next election along with the mayor.

As repeated on this site many times: proactive criminal enforcement reduces crime. Laying down to avoid confrontation and spend your idle days on community cop ice cream and coffee diversity bullsh-t raises crime.

"Command staff encouraged patrol officers to take 250 guns off the street. On Monday, and only six months into the year, LMPD announced the division had already seized more than 200 guns. It makes us want to come to work and wear this uniform and wear this badge and makes us proud to be here," Powell said of the division's goal. Lt. O'Neil said already, the officers' hard work has resulted in some real results: a 12.4 percent drop in violent crime and a nearly 67 percent drop in business robberies."

Why's Metro still wasting money on libraries? There's this thing call the internet that has every book in the world available on it. There's also this thing called subscription online libraries that any library system can get their members access to.

Bill Hollander, who's in charge of the budget, was telling the TV news about how we can't police our way out of crime problems. I realize you have no experience in that area, Bill, but policing is what used to keep Louisville's crime rate far below that of the national average. That was back before you, Fischer, Conrad and the other elitist east end snobs, the anti-police activists and their council friends tried to remake LMPD into an ice cream vending welfare and public relations agency. Louisville and Jefferson County had 39 murders TOTAL in 1989. It's had over 120 per year recently.

Don't let facts get in the way of your inaccurate opinions. Few politicians do.

The Democratic Caucus of the Louisville Metro Council So you get the Explorer report a week ago and you get on tv today and tell everyone you haven't read it over and over again. You basically tell everyone you know nothing. You can look at everyones face and you can tell you are not telling all the truth. So now you are putting it off till July. Same old stuff stall till after the election then give it out so no one will be damaged. This council is a joke and needs to be voted out. I wonder how much money that the council members were threatened to be removed by this mayor for pet projects if it was made public. You should be ashamed of this but as typical politicians you don't care about anything but yourself. I will politic against any sitting council member when they come up for election. David James I used to have more respect for you than this. You just joined the crowd.

The Harvey report:

June 28th, 2018 @ 2:49PM (6 years ago)

So you discovered the possible ruination of LMPD's credibility with the citizens of Jefferson country and this is something you mentioned in passing to your superior? Deputy mayor then stated she doesn't remember that conversation? You then claim a backlog of BS cases already in front of the review board that you approved and created as the reason for not firing? It doesn't take a masters degree to read between the lines and find the guilty parties. If this Mayor has any hope at re election he better fire all the top brass in LMPD and PSU/PIU......shame on U.

More conclusive evidence that 1-officer cars are nearly useless unless you're only taking a report. They're not even good for laying down at a gas station to slurp free coffee in 2018.

Ricky Jones

July 3rd, 2018 @ 7:52AM (6 years ago)

So I just watched the segment of Tucker Carlson where he had alleged "Dr." Ricky Jones on his show for an interview. What an embarrassment to have "of the University of Louisville" on the chyron. As a graduate of the University myself, I felt ashamed to have that city supported racist on a national program making a complete babbling fool of himself. The mayor and a particular radio personality here hold that moron in such high esteem that it's sickening. Simply substitute the word "black" every time Jones says "white" and see what the backlash would be.

The cost taxpayers bear to hold officers accountable

July 3rd, 2018 @ 9:14PM (6 years ago)

Mayor Fischer appointed a bigoted man to the "Police Accountability Commission" who conveniently forgets and ignores about who exactly is killing the vast majority of black men. Hint: It's not police. He offers no solutions for the real problem. Only bigoted racist propaganda serving the radical revolutionary politics of he and his fellow nuts over at the leftist Urinalverisity the FBI's about to run out of the basketball business.

"Traumatizing families and children of color is not new. White Americans enslaved blacks, raped black women, demonized black men, ripped black children from their parents, sold them all when profitable, visited any number of other inexcusable atrocities upon them ... and justified it all. Those who resisted were threatened, punished or killed. Once slavery ended, whites continued to glorify slavery and the Confederacy with flags, statues, monuments and political candidates who reaffirmed all the nastiness and death. They still do.

That only scratches the surface. Native American genocide, black codes, grandfather clauses, poll taxes, intimidation, disproportionate incarceration, convict leasing, Jim Crow, Japanese American internment, police murder of black men, women and children often without consequence. None of it is new. It is the continuation of a long-standing pattern and, as Congresswoman Maxine Waters advised, resistance needs to be fomented.

Maybe Baldwin was right when he said we are dealing with "moral monsters." It is hard to say at this point. If that is the case, we need to be clear about it. Such an acknowledgment would lower the expectation that many of our white brothers and sisters will be inclined to make decisions based on human decency rather than economic and political calculations or privilege maintenance. At least that honesty would eradicate the lies and pretense.

If America continues on this path (and there is no historical or contemporary evidence that it will not), maybe Emma Lazarus' words famously associated with the Statue of Liberty, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" should be replaced with a paraphrasing of Dante, "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here ... unless ye be white."
