If you're in a ambush at the distance he was shooting at with a pistol. The most effective method would've been to get out of the car. Shooting thru a windshield with a pistol is not accurate shot placement. You either drive thru the ambush or you fight like hell to get out. You never stay in the car shooting thru a window.
