It went over your head.
He would have made 100% of his take home pay, or close to it, by sitting at home on retirement for the last 10 years. There was probably a slight increase by working a job, but nothing he couldn't have made working part-time at Walmart handing out grocery carts a few hours a week. That assumes he's not on some ancient double dipper grandfather clause that allowed earning another CERS Hazardous pension while drawing on an older one.
