The election is the only thing that could possibly save this city. It would take someone popular among Democrats like David James or a big name like John Schnatter to beat Fischer. The Republican politicians of Kentucky are too libertarian to win here anymore. They can't come in promising to cut every public benefit, school program and healthcare subsidies if they want to win Louisville. Conrad simply carries out the political will of the Mayor, because if he did any different, he'd likely be fired
