RE: LMPD officer hit by vehicle; 2 arrested
I don't know who wrote the editorial because I could not find a name on it anywhere, but whoever it is does not realize that it is not that the people involved are being protected, it is the process that needs protecting. If the Explorer abuse allegations are true, then I have no sympathy for any involved and they deserve what they get once the investigations are completed. If the Union simply said, "well, due to the nature of the allegations, we will simply let the Mayor, Chief and whoever their appointed minions are do whatever they want to get to the bottom of this matter. Forget Due Process or the Police Officer Bill of Rights and do whatever you want." That sets a bad precedent and can be used against the Union and officers in the future. "You guys let us do it six months ago, so we can do it again" type of mentality. Once the Union and officers begin to give up one or two of their rights, soon you will have none. Don't be fooled.
