The budget shows some interesting things without explaining much about why. WLKY completely misreported what's in it, saying law enforcement is at the top of the budget and adds 112 recruits. It actually says they'll add 44 more officers to get the department to 1293 but also shows the department is at 1283 today. It appears WLKY had the wool pulled over their eyes by the slick people downtown who'd all make good used car salesmen.

---They're spending about 25% more on people in offices and almost nothing more on patrol. Administrative Bureau went from $38 million to $48 million in 2 years (that's 26%), Support from $37 million to $46 million (24%), while Patrol only went up $2 million to $94 million (2%)

---Salaries excluding overtime went from $66 million 2 years ago to $85 million this year while the number of employees stayed about the same. Again this is not going to patrol officers. Who is it going to?

---Workers comp payments went up over 50% from 2 years ago.

---Computer software rental went from $1.4 million to $2.4 million in 2 years.

---Drugs/medicine supplies went from $71,000 to $109,000 in 2 years.

---First aid supplies went from $12,800 to $118,000 in 2 years

---Safety barricades went from $40,100 to $63,000 in 2 years

---Aviation fuel went from $22,700 to $65,000 in 2 years

---Safety supplies went from $71,700 to $137,000 in 2 years
