Last time they said the department had 1012 Officers, 155 Sergeants, 57 Lieutenants, 14 Majors, 1 Deputy Chief and 1 Chief, or 1240 total, and LMPD is below that number now. The department used to be authorized 1277. As the metro population grows, the department fails to keep up, and crime skyrockets, although a lot of that can be blamed on bad leadership decisions and a lack of good policing strategies.
