I agree it is frustrating when you're waiting on results from one of your own cases and our resources are "loaned out" to other departments.

But it's part of the "Mutual Aid" agreements LMPD maintains with neighboring agencies. When/if LMPD needs something from one of those agencies, they (hopefully) would reciprocate and help us out. Granted, since we're the largest agency in the state, we typically have the resources that the other agency needs, not the other way around. (With the possible exception of KSP or other larger agencies.)

I'm retired, but when I was involved in assisting outside agencies, I didn't mind helping them out, but I would always sort of forewarn them that I'll get to their case as soon as I can, but I will typically take care of our own cases first. (Unless some sort of mitigating circumstances, like a missing kid or something like that.)

I never recall the other agency griping that I was going to take care of our own cases first, I think they were usually just grateful to have the help at all.

The small cities don't have full service law enforcement agencies. They all rely on LMPD for the things they don't have and don't do. The department, being the real countywide police department, is lucky they even exist to take some of the routine workloads off of the divisions. The main problem is that Metro government likes to blow hundreds of millions of dollars on frivolities and subsidizing private businesses instead of public safety, to include investigations, crime lab work, and CSU. This department doesn't even have a real Assistant Chief for investigations. It's an afterthought. The Mayor does not think crime is a problem and the Chief is not independent enough to advocate for more money on TV or point out what the real problems are.
