Jeffersontown police fatally shoot robbery suspect |
RE: Jeffersontown police fatally shoot robbery suspect
"I think we'll come to find this individual had an addiction problem and was trying to find a victim," Chief Sanders said. "It's a plague. It's something we need to deal with in the most serious manner. A lot of the violence brought in this community is being brought in by people addicted to drugs."
Nearby residents said they had not seen such a violent crime occur in the middle of the day before Tuesday.
"I've lived in the community for 31 years. And I've never seen anything like that," Ann Norman said. "I already discussed it with my husband, to get mase. And tomorrow I think it's time to go get it. Definitely."

"During a long rambling interview with Monica Mudd, she told detectives she and Byrd were mad at Hassler for stealing $1,000 worth of their drugs. She admitted to a fight and forcing Hassler in a car, but at first denied being present during the murder.
Detective to Monica Mudd: "Did he shoot her in the head?" (Mudd nods her head yes.)
Detective: "Was she on her knees? Was she standing up?"
Mudd: "On her knees, he didn't kill her."
Detective: Was it in the back of the head?"
Mudd: "Yes sir"
Mudd explained it took a second shot to kill Hassler. She said Byrd later wanted her to help him dispose of the body.
Mudd: "He wanted me to go with him to cut her up in pieces, put her in a bag and bury her and I said no."
Byrd wasn't so chatty with police. Only saying this after his arrest:
Detective: "The charges on the citation are for murder and kidnapping.”
Byrd: "Really? Wow."
