It depends on the schedule they come up with. By the time they factor in the increased retirements and resignations, increased number of sick days, increased FMLA, unexpectedly long court days removing people from the schedule, etc they will have overtime. This is the same situation as the ambulance crews have been in before. The geniuses downtown only listened to their genius consultant and didn't bother to read the more credible studies on 8 and 12 hour shifts that contradict this efficiency fairy tale they're spinning. This is all about running cover for the Mayor's office while they spend a bunch of money on unnecessary pet projects like the giveaways for the Omni Hotel and library. They'd rather do that than keep police staffing at the levels of previous years or increase the police officers in response to the increased violent crime.

Actually, you are the one that is wrong. If the Chief MANDATES that we go to 12's then he would contractually have to pay us all 4 hours of overtime everyday that we worked. However, if we agree to 12's and the new contract provisions that come with it, then he won't have to pay overtime.
