Actually, elohssa, he was transported by the officers to receive assistance. The officers were veterans as well and went out of their way to help him. Everything that happened before the officers were able to deduce he needed help was good police work. BTW, I'm a combat veteran as well and this is what I deduce about the veteran at the mid city mall:

Vet-yes

Traumatic injury-yes

Deserves respect-yes

Needs medical/emotional/psychological assistance-yes

Is an arrogant, egotistical ssa with a superiority complex-yes

Telling someone to leave town sounds as stupid as telling them to not leave town. It only works in old movies.
