You lead by example whether or not that is your intent. A lazy LT communicates that standard to his people. An active LT helping make arrests sets the bar higher. There are people who think you can just slow down your pace of work or leave the street entirely when you are promoted or after you have been around 5 years or more. They consider themselves too experienced to be proactive anymore. That's for new guys, squirrels, and people trying to impress the Major. In my last department those lazy
