I don't really have a dog in this fight, but that would be the equivalent of someone riding around your beat looking for your car (I assume you're in patrol, or a creeper for driving by HQ so often), and stating that because they didn't happen to see it, that you're not working. There is a chance that you aren't. There's also a chance they just timed it right, and missed you. That you are actually following up on some type of investigation, and you just haven't been noticed by the one person looking
