Murder rate spiking in Metro Louisville

I would be interested in the statistic as to why people are getting murdered (or assaulted so badly they would be expected to die, you can't separate the two). My cousin was one of the "innocent victims" - a break-in gone bad, but I know that his situation is not the normal murder. As I explained to a relative who couldn't really understand why they couldn't solve his murder, in effect, they are trying to solve a burglary that just happened to evolve into a homicide, not an intentional homicide where the victim and suspect had some connection. But that is data I don't think I've ever seen -probably for fear of angering the victim's families.
