4 in 10 LMPD cruiser crashes officer's fault

what exactly was the point of this 'article'? officers drive thousands upon thousands of miles, under stress, and with a ton of distractions - trying to get to those that need help. of course there are going to be some wrecks. that is a no-brainer. nature of the beast. nice try throwing dirt, but all I got from this 'story' is that officers don't cause most of the wrecks they are involved in.

during my shift I, have at least 2-3 morons almost run into me. to the point that I have to swerve to avoid the collision that they are about to cause. how about doing a story on the NON-DRIVING population of Jefferson county and their accident rates?

Maybe he should compare his own driving record, or wave 3's whole crew, to LMPD. Mile for mile. He wouldn't even have to deal with the same distractions or stresses. (reporters don't get attacked that often, do they?)

Because "6 in 10 LMPD crashes NOT officer's fault" would have been too fair a headline. I don't even get the point of this "investigation". He used tonal inflection and innuendo to imply negative things, but his facts actually make LMPD look good. 1 wreck every 211,000 miles? Them there is good numbers, y'all.

a lack of context

There could be different reasons for the total number of accidents, but there's no excusing the 40% at-fault rate.

A 40% at fault rate means that LMPD officers are much better drivers than the general public who average a 50% at fault rate (no duh, Batman). That's amazing considering we don't even own a place to practice driving.

I have a hard time believing that our we average 211,000 miles without an accident. Shucks, I personally know some who have had multiple accidents before they had driven 100,000. That must mean somebody is in the million mile club.

On a different angle, kudos to the FOP for addressing the pension and the contract. I did sense some frustration regarding what Metro is trying to do with the contract. Shame on them.

Happy Thanksgiving all,

So metro is now taking two Highway Interdiction detectives....is Patrol going to have anyone left. Hell the 80 new marked Police Interceptors will be enough for everyone in patrol to have a new one. Just another plain clothes unit asking "can you send me a marked car for transport" between our countless calls for service.
