Lyrics
"Total Eclipse of the Heart"
performed by: Nicki Fench
Lyrics:
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never coming round
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit terrified and then I see the look in your eyes
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit restless and I dream of something wild
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit helpless and I'm lying like a child in your arms
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit angry and I know I've got to get out and cry
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a little bit terrified but then I see the look in your eyes
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart
And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart
INSTRUMENTAL
Turnaround bright eyes
Turnaround bright eyes
Turnaround, Every now and then I know you'll never be the boy you always wanted to be
Turnaround, But every now and then I know you'll always be the only boy who wanted me the way that I am
Turnaround, Every now and then I know there's no one in the universe as magical and wondrous as you
Turnaround, Every now and then I know there's nothing any better and there's nothing I just wouldn't do
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and then I fall apart
And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
Well be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
Nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart
About Nicki French:
Nicki French is a female singer and dancer who was born in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, but raised from the age of four in Tenterden, Kent, England. She is best known for her 1995 dance cover version of Total Eclipse of the Heart.
French had been a session singer for many years before she covered "Total Eclipse Of The Heart", a song made famous by Bonnie Tyler. Her single was first released in 1994 in the United Kingdom. When it was re-released in 1995 the song reached no. 5 during a 3 month chart run, selling over 5million copies in the process and earning a silver sales award and well as becoming her record lable 'Love This' biggest chart success.
This was followed by even more successful chart run in the United States, where the track reached no. 2 and spent 6 months on the Billboard Hot 100 music charts. The single also reached number 1 in seven countries - Australia, Japan, Canada, Israel, Spain, Hong Kong and Brazil, as well as charting in Sweden, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, Denmark and Norway. She went onto win a record breaking 3 awards at the 'Dance Music Rasberry Authority Magazine Awards' in the USA - Single Of The Year (Total Eclipse Of The Heart), Newcomer and Female Vocalist Of The Year.
Her second single "For All We Know", a cover version of the Carpenters' reached 42 in the UK singles chart due to poor distribution and abarcode error. The track was due to be released in America but due to a dispute between record companies only made it as far as a promo release. Her debut album, Secrets, charted in Japan, Brazil, Israel, Asia, USA (Selling 50.000 copies during its first week on sale!), Canada and Australia selling extremely well due to the success of her debut single. Further singles from the album included "Is There Anybody Out There?", "Did You Ever Really Love Me?" (both of which charted in the UK) and "Never In A Million Years" (which was released in Denmark and Sweden only). "Did You Ever Really Love Me?" was released Stateside and remains on some dance music stations' databases.
Various other songs were added to formats around the world, including renditions of "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" and "Stop In The Name Of Love". French was her record company 'Love This' biggest artist but due to them achieving limited success with their other acts they went into liquidation. She was then signed by Logic Records UK (part of the SonyBMG group, during which time she released 'Te Amo' in various countries. In Brazil it reached Number.4 becoming French's 5th consecutive Top.10 in the airplay charts.
In 1998 she released her second album to rave reviews, and success in Japan and Taiwan. The album featured the hit single "Te Amo" which was successful worldwide charting in Canada, Brazil(No.1 airplay charts), UK and Mexico.
In 2000 she entered the Eurovision Song Contest with "Don't Play That Song Again", the song being selected by members of the British public. She was then signed up by RCA records, the track reached number 34 in the UK charts. French finished in 16th place. She insists even now that she still looks back on this time with extremely fond memories and would love to enter the contest again.
French signed to Jim Steinman's 'Ravenous Records' label for a short period in 2000 during which time she recorded 'Lovers Again' and '2 Out Of 3 Ain't Bad' both of which were never released. Nicki later went on to record 3 tracks with the writer of her Eurovision smash hit Gerry Springate, those covers of past Eurovision hits was due to be released as an EP and was even put up for sale on EBay but due to Nicki being unhappy with the final mixes the record got pulled.
French continues to tour the UK and Europe, performing her hits as well as new material. She more recently released two singles, "I Surrender" in 2004 and "Calling Out My Name" in 2005. "I Surrender", a dance cover of Celine Dion's hit single peaked at #1 on one U.S. based dance chart[verification needed]. It charted on the "EuroNRG Top 40" chart on eurodancehits.com, in February 2005 due to its popularity with nightclub DJ's. Her latest release Nicki French Vs Diva DJs 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart 2006' reached Number.1 on Amazon's Hot 100 Chart and IndieStore's download chart, but only reached an overall UK chart position of 168 but sales remained strong despite the low chart position and current UK sales stand at 3.000 making it her record lable 'Energise' biggest selling release to date.
French has retained her large Gay male following and is thought of as a Gay icon. She has headlined some of the biggest Pride shows in recent years including EuroPride, Stockholm Pride and the world's biggest Pride event Australia's 'Mardi Gras'.
